Track & Field Wins 12 Events at Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team had their full squad in action on Saturday at the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite and saw the men's and women's teams combine to win 12 events while posting a total of five NCAA provisional qualifying marks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions secured four of the top five positions in the men's weight throw as senior Michael Roberts notched a first-place finish in the event with a personal best NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 19.67m. Junior Hayden Cuevas was the second-place finisher in the competition with a mark of 17.38m, while senior Kane Fobare finished fourth overall with a personal best heave of 16.17m and junior James Bronzwaig finished fifth overall with a toss of 15.95m.
  • Senior Savannah Jorgens posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of her own in the women's weight throw as she finished first overall in the competition with a mark of 18.46m. Jorgens was joined inside the top five finishers by redshirt junior Grace Solarin in third place with a toss of 16.75m and redshirt junior Bailey Young in fourth place with a mark of 14.82m.
  • UCCS had six student-athletes advance through the preliminary round of the women's 60m hurdles, led by junior Krissie Sanders with the fastest time in the field at an NCAA provisional qualifying clip of 8.77c. In the event final, Sanders once again finished first overall and surpassed the provisional qualifying threshold with a converted time of 8.66s. Sanders was followed across the finish line by senior Abigail Frey in third place at 8.93c, freshman Tristyn Buss in fourth place at 9.21c, sophomore Payton Rodgers in fifth place at 9.25c, and freshman Colette Bibeault in sixth place at 9.31c.
  • Freshman Jason Lomosi reached the NCAA provisional qualifying threshold in the men's triple jump as he unleashed a leap of 14.56m for a fourth-place finish in the event. Sophomore Realiti Smith claimed sixth place with a mark of 14.28m, while senior Willie Tran recorded a personal best leap of 14.06m for a seventh-place finish.
  • In the women's triple jump, sophomore Payton Rodgers posted an NCAA provisional qualifying leap of 11.79m to finish fourth overall in the field of 14 jumpers. Freshmen Tristyn Buss and Jillian Hennessy also put forth personal best efforts in the event with Buss finishing sixth overall at 11.51m and Hennessy taking seventh overall at 11.33m.
  • Senior Brooke Peterson paced the Mountain Lions in the women's pole vault as she cleared a bar height of 3.60m and earned a first-place finish by virtue of winning a jump-off against Colorado School of Mines' Taylor Hindman, who also posted a mark of 3.60m. A pair of Mountain Lion freshman also posted personal best marks in the event with Sienna Boughen claiming third place with a bar clearance of 3.45m and Reese Dorr finishing in a tie for fifth place with a bar clearance of 3.30m.
  • UCCS picked up another event win in the men's 5,000m race as redshirt junior Michael Burke Jr. galloped to a personal best converted time of 14:29.42 for a first-place finish. Redshirt junior Caden Leal joined Burke Jr. as a top five finisher in the event, posting a fourth-place converted time of 14:35.55.
  • Redshirt junior Enzo Knapp raced to a first-place finish in the men's mile as he posted a personal best converted time of 4:09.40 to outlast the 14-person field. Crossing the finish line just behind Knapp in second place was redshirt sophomore Jonas Graff, who recorded a converted time of 4:14.33 in his first collegiate mile race.
  • Four Mountain Lion student-athletes advanced through the preliminary round of the men's 60m hurdles, including senior Dillon Arvayo (8.54c), freshman Xavier Sutherlin (8.55c), junior Spencer Shuler (8.73c), and junior Evan Atkin (8.75c). In the final round of the event, Sutherlin ascended to the top spot in the field as he posted a personal best converted time of 8.46s, while Arvayo took fifth place in a converted time of 8.58s, Atkin claimed sixth place in a personal best converted time of 8.63s, and Shuler secured seventh place with a converted time of 8.76s.
  • UCCS collected first place finishes in both the men's and women's 800m races with sophomore Cienna Dietz crossing the finish line first on the women's side with a season-best converted time of 2:18.95 and redshirt senior Joseph Hamilton earning the event victory in his season-debut with a converted time of 1:54.52.
  • The first four finishers in the men's 200m dash went in the direction of the Mountain Lions as senior Sebastien Jean sprinted to a first-place finish in the event with a converted time of 22.05s. Freshman Joshua Gross was the next Mountain Lion to cross the finish line as he claimed second place with a converted time of 22.26s with freshman Hayden Fox (22.45c) and redshirt junior Andrew Muncy (22.66c) right on his tail in third and fourth place, respectively.
  • After her event win in the women's weight throw earlier in the day, Jorgens returned to the throws ring for the women's shot put and collected another first-place finish as she topped the competition with a mark of 13.46m. The Mountain Lions also filled up the remaining positions in the top five with sophomore Jaedyn Kohn posting a personal best mark of 13.19m for a second-place finish followed by Grace Solarin (12.97m), Bailey Young (12.63m), and Carley Malinowski (12.49m) in third through fifth place, respectively.
  • UCCS took the top two spots in the women's 3,000m race with redshirt sophomore Madison Brosig finishing first overall in a converted time of 10:00.81 and redshirt senior Molly Breuer taking second place with a converted time of 10:01.59.
  • The Mountain Lions claimed two of the top three positions in both the men's and women's 400m races. On the women's side, freshman Bentley Fitzgerald was the second overall finisher with a personal best converted time of 59.34s, while freshman Michelle Headley notched a personal best converted time of 59.49s to finish third overall. In the men's race, freshman Revano Plummer finished second overall in a converted time of 50.69s and redshirt freshman Harvey Trevino-Patton took third overall with a converted time of 51.40s. 
  • The Mountain Lions advanced four student-athletes through the preliminary round of the men's 60m dash with senior Daryn Ofori-Kuragu (6.91c), freshman Michael Ryan Cruzado (6.99c), freshman Noah Brown (7.01c), and freshman Julian Brantley (7.03c) each finishing among the top eight in the initial field of athletes. Later in the afternoon, Ofori-Kuragu continued to lead the Mountain Lions in the event final as he secured a second-place finish with a converted time of 6.87s. He was followed across the line by Cruzado in fourth place at 6.96c, Brantley in sixth place at 6.98c, and Brown in seventh place at 7.01c.
  • In the women's 60m dash, UCCS saw six student-athletes qualify for the event final with freshman Katie Jewell leading the group with a converted time of 7.85s that registered as the third-fastest time in the preliminary field. Jewell continued to pace the UCCS sprinters in the final round as she raced to a second-place finish with an improved converted time of 7.79s. Redshirt senior Madissyn Moore finished directly behind Jewell in third place with a time of 7.84c, while junior Taryn Fettig (7.94c) took fifth place, junior Danaya Kinnard (7.97c) claimed sixth place, and freshman Leiava Holliman (7.99c) finished in seventh place.
  • Freshman Gray Pence notched a personal best bar clearance of 4.65m in the men's pole vault to earn a second-place finish, while Arvayo matched his personal best in the event with a mark of 4.50m.
  • Freshman Evelyn McClellan matched her personal best in the women's high jump with a bar clearance of 1.62m for a second-place finish, while juniors Lilyana Delagarza and Dallis Robinson also cleared 1.62m to claim the third and fourth positions, respectively.
  • The Mountain Lions filled three of the top four positions in the men's shot put, led by senior Kane Fobare in second place with a mark of 16.06m. Senior Kyle Demos finished third overall in the event with a toss of 15.67m, while freshman Cam Bruns secured a fourth-place finish with a heave of 14.84m.
  • Sanders led the Mountain Lions in the women's 200m with a converted time of 25.79s that was good for second overall in the competition. Freshmen Olivia Clay (26.08c) and Emili Voelker (26.13c) crossed the finish line just behind Sanders in third and fourth place, respectively, while junior Taryn Fettig took fifth place with a time of 26.17c.
  • In the men's 3,000m, redshirt junior Turner Schad earned a second-place finish with a personal best converted time of 8:41.61 and was followed across the finish line by redshirt senior Jack Donze, who notched a third-place finish with a converted time of 8:49.22.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • The Mountain Lions posted updates to the top five list in the indoor record book for two different events on Saturday, including the men's weight throw and women's shot put
  • After four weekends of competition, the UCCS men's and women's track & field teams have notched a total of 26 NCAA provisional qualifying marks, including 14 on the men's side and 12 on the women's side.

  • The Mountain Lions will split up next weekend with the distance runners competing at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Mass. and the Mines Winter Classic in Golden, Colo. while the remainder of the team travels to Albuquerque, N.M. for the New Mexico Team Open.
