FORD CITY, Ala. – May 23, 2018 – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team shot a two-under-par 286 Wednesday afternoon in the third round of the 2018 NCAA Men's Golf Division II Championship Tournament, held at the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals Fighting Joe Course.
The Mountain Lions started the round tied for 12
th place but finished in ninth place overall with a three-round score of 877 (298, 293, 286). UCCS finished one place shy of advancing to Thursday's Match Play.
Florida Southern used a 12-under-par round on Wednesday to take the top seed after three days of stroke play. Florida Southern finished the three rounds with an 840 total, six strokes ahead of Barry at 846.
In
Colin Prater's final round of his college career, he shot a two-under par 70 and placed in a tie for 12
th overall after carding a four-under-par 212 in the tournament.
Tanner Comes birdied four holes on Wednesday to card a 72 and place in a tie for 39
th. He finished with a four-over-par 220.
Ji Jang moved to 44
th place and finished with a 221. He birdied three holes on his way to a one-under-par 71 today.
Jack Duguid recorded five birdies, including a stretch of four birdies in five holes. He finished in a tie for 44
th place with today's round of 71 and three day total of 221.
Isaac Spillum carded a 78 today and finished 95
th overall with a 235.
The top eight teams advance to Medal Match Play beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, with top seed Florida Southern facing eighth seeded Lincoln Memorial, second seeded Barry facing seventh seeded Saint Leo, third seeded Lynn facing sixth seeded Arkansas Tech and fourth seeded West Florida facing fifth seeded Indianapolis.
The four winners of the morning rounds will advance to the semifinal round on Thursday afternoon. The two semifinal winners will then meet in the Championship Medal Match on Friday at 9 a.m.
Florida Southern junior John VanDerLaan claimed the individual national championship with rounds of 66, 68 and 65 for a 17-under-par, 199 total.
