MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – May 21, 2018 – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team opened the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament Monday with a first round score of 298. The Mountain Lions are competing at the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals Golf Course (par 72, 7407 yards) in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
UCCS is one of 20 teams competing in the tournament. The first three rounds of the tournament will consist of Stroke Play. After Wednesday's round, the top eight teams will compete in Match Play, followed by Friday's championship Match Play round.
Colin Prater paced UCCS in the first round after carding a one-under par 71, tying him for 15
th place. Prater posted birdies four times in the first round.
Jack Duguid and
Ji Jang are tied for 51
st place after shooting a 75. Duguid and
Tanner Comes each opened with a birdie on Hole 1. Comes is sitting in a tie for 69
th place after posting a 77.
The Mountain Lions fifth golfer,
Isaac Spillum, shot an 80 and is tied for 91
st place.
West Florida leads all teams with a 279, one stroke ahead of Indianapolis, and two strokes ahead of Florida Southern's 281. FSU's John VanDerLaan recorded a 66 to best all 108 golfers in the tournament.
