Men's Golf Win Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout

The Mountain Lions were led by Colin Prater and Tanner Comes who placed first and third overall

HAYWARD, Calif. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team got their spring season off to a hot start by winning Cal State East Bay's Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at The Club at Ruby Hill on Tuesday.

The Mountain Lions shot a third round score of 280, which was the lowest round score of any team in any round.

UCCS, who are currently ranked No. 15 in the latest  Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll, knocked off other ranked teams including No. 8 CSU-Monterey Bay and No. 11 Chico State as well as California Baptist who are receiving votes.

As a team, the Mountain Lions shot just 6 over par with a combined score of 870 (289, 301, 280), edging Monterey Bay by three strokes who scored 873 (294, 288, 291).

Individually, Colin Prater earned medalist honors with a -7 under par performance, scoring 209 (71, 70, 68).

Teammate Tanner Comes placed third with score of 211 (70, 76, 65) to finish -5 under. His third round result was the lowest score of the tournament.

UCCS  is back in action next week when they travel to western Texas to compete in the South Central/West Region Preview, hosted by West Texas A&M.
