DANIELS, W.V. – Junior transfer student-athlete
Clay McCrory led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team in their season opening tournament Oct. 1-2 at the NCAA Division II Preview Tournament, held at the Cobb Course at Glade Springs in Daniels, W.V.
The Mountain Lions finished fifth out of 17 teams, recording a three-round score of 870 (295, 286, 289).
Barry University won the team title by three strokes (12-under par 840). Tomas Gana of Lynn University earned the individual championship after winning the tournament with an eight-under par 205.
McCrory improved by seven places on Tuesday during the third round to place in a tie for 11
th overall. After closing out Monday's second round with a 70, McCrory copied his performance with another round of 70, finishing the tournament with a one-over par 214.
Tanner Comes added one stroke (73) from the first two rounds of the tournament. His three-round tournament score of 217 placed him in a tie for 19
th overall.
Jack Duguid chipped in a 76 in the final round to close out the tournament in 26
th place (218).
Ignacio de La Vega finished strong with a one-under par 70 in the third round to wrap up the Mountain Lions scorers. de La Vega finished tied for 61
st overall after cutting off nine strokes between the second and third rounds.
UCCS will compete next Oct. 8-9 at the RMAC Fall Preview, hosted by Regis University at the Walnut Creek Preserve in Westminster, Colo.
