BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team put two Mountain Lions in the top five and is fifth among 16 teams after the first day of the Western Washington Invitational.
Tanner Comes is tied for second with a 4-under 140 through two rounds at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.
Comes shot a 3-under 69 in the second round and improved by seven positions from his morning score of 71. He is in a three-way tie for second, and the trio is two strokes off the lead held by Chris Crisologo of Simon Fraser.
Colin Prater is one stroke behind Comes and tied for fifth with at 3-under 141. He has shot at or below par in all five rounds this season with a 70 in the morning and a 71 in the afternoon.
Peter Johns and
Jack Duguid closed out the team score for UCCS in both rounds today and finished two strokes away from each other in the overall standings. Both Mountain Lions opened with a 76 in the first round and Johns closed the day with a 73 and is tied for No. 36 with a 149. Duguid finished with a 75 in the second round and is tied for No. 58 with a 7-over 151.
The Mountain Lions improved their score by five strokes in the afternoon with an even 288 after a 5-over 293 in the morning. UCCS is three strokes behind the University of Victoria and five strokes behind Oklahoma Christian. Simon Fraser and the University of British Columbia are tied for the team lead at one stroke under par.
UCCS will tee off in the final round on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., MDT.
