STOCKTON, Calif. –
Colin Prater finished fourth with a tournament score of 205 for 11 strokes under par at the 2017 NCAA Division II West / South Central Region Championships, but was one stroke away from a national championship appearance as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs finished eighth in the team standings. He recorded his ninth top-five finish of the season after a three-under 69 in today's round.
Prater started with five birdies in the first six holes after the Mountain Lions started on hole 10, and recorded an eagle on hole four for the second straight day. He finished with his seventh straight round below par and recorded his 23rd round this season among the 34 he competed in. Prater posted his best tournament score in relation to par since the season-opening tournament in September and his fourth straight tournament below par.
Blake Young and
Ji Jang both turned in their best rounds of the week with a 72 and 73, respectively. Young made three straight birdies on holes 12 through 14 and Jang posted three birdies in a four-hole stretch after he made the turn.
Zach Berhost closed out the team score with a 73 and finished his final collegiate tournament with a season-best five-over performance.
UCCS recorded its seventh round of the season below par with a one-under 287 today. The Mountain Lions moved up four positions today for an eighth-place finish and posted a tournament score of six below par with a 858.
The Mountain Lions finished the season as the RMAC regular season and tournament champions and increased their program total to 14 conference titles. UCCS qualified for the regional championships for the 16th consecutive season and recorded its best team finish since 2014.
