PHOENIX, Ariz. –
Colin Prater opened with a 67 this morning and is tied for fourth with a four-under 140 after the first two rounds of the Mustang Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club. The Mountain Lions are No. 12 in the team standings at 11 strokes above par in the field of 20 teams.
Prater recorded three straight birdies on holes 10 through 12 and finished with six total in the first round for his five-under 67 performance. He matched his best score of the spring season and was tied for second in the tournament after the round. Prater recorded a one-over 73 in the afternoon with three birdies. He is four strokes off of the tournament lead held by California State-East Bay's Adam Stone.
Tanner Comes recorded the second scores for UCCS in both rounds with a two-under 70 in the morning and tied Prater's 73 in the afternoon. He is tied for No. 17 in the tournament with a one-under 143 through two rounds in his best 36-hole score since his first two rounds at the RMAC No. 2 event last October.
Zach Berhost and
Ji Jang both finished with a 75 in the first round. Berhost recorded a 76 in the afternoon and Jang dropped to a 78 as the two rounded out the Mountain Lion team score in both rounds today.
UCCS opened with a one-under 287 in the morning in the fourth round this season at or below par. The Mountain Lions were seventh after the round, but dropped to No. 12 after a 12-over 300 in the second round. UCCS is one stroke behind Westminster and two behind Colorado Mesa in the team standings.
The Mountain Lions will be paired with Westminster, Mesa and California Baptist when the third and final round starts at 8:30 a.m., MDT, on Tuesday. The teams will start on holes 10 through 15.
