CHANDLER, Ariz. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team opened with a one-under 283 in the morning and after a seven-over 291 in the afternoon will take a three-stroke lead into Tuesday's final round at the 2017 RMAC Tournament today at the Ocotillo Golf Resort. Colin Prater will also spend the night on top of the leaderboard with a two-stroke lead on a score of 137 for five strokes under par.
The Mountain Lions have a three-stroke lead in the standings ahead of second place Colorado State-Pueblo with a two-round score of 574 for six strokes over par. UCCS recorded its fifth team score below par this season and the third this spring in the morning. The Mountain Lions are the defending RMAC Tournament champions and have won or shared the last three regular season and tournament titles.
Prater shot a three-under 68 in the morning and followed with a two-under 69 in the afternoon. He is two strokes ahead of his nearest competitors in Colorado Mines' George Markham and Colorado State-Pueblo's Jake Ice. Prater has finished below par in four of his last five rounds and in 19 overall this season. He finished the day with three birdies in his last five holes and with nine birdies total in his 36 holes.
Zach Berhost is tied for eighth after he scored a 72 in both rounds today for a two-over 144. Blake Young posted a 70 in the first round and Ji Jang rounded out the morning team score with a two-over 73. Tanner Comes' 74 in the first round was dropped from the team scoring, but he lowered his score to a 72 in the afternoon for a mark that did count. Young's 78 was counted after Jang's 79 was dropped. Comes is tied for No. 14 in the individual standings with a four-over 146 and Young is tied for No. 24 with a 148.
UCCS will be paired with CSU-Pueblo and Colorado Mines for Tuesday's final round. The first golfers will start at 9:30 a.m., MDT.
