Colin Prater shot a four-under 68 in the afternoon and is tied for the lead after the first two rounds of the 67th SoCal Intercollegiate at Carlton Oaks Golf Club. The Mountain Lions are fifth at 14-over through two rounds.
Prater is tied with California State-San Marcos' Ryan Bisharat with a two-round score of 140. Prater opened the first round with an even 72 before he lowered his score by four strokes in the afternoon with his 68. It was his second-best score in the spring season and best since a 67 in the second round of the Cactus Thaw on Feb. 14.
Prater is leading the field with 12 birdies in the first 36 holes. Prater and Bisharat are two strokes ahead of the closest golfer and Prater is playing for his second tournament win of the 2016-17 season.
Tanner Comes is tied for seventh after today's action with a two-over 146. He recorded a 73 in both rounds and was one of 10 golfers today to record an eagle. Comes is in position for his third top-10 finish of the season and his first in the spring.
Blake Young turned in the third score for UCCS in both rounds with a 76 in the in the morning and 74 in the afternoon. He is tied for No. 21 in the field of 75 golfers with his six-over 150.
Ji Jang scored a 77 in both rounds to close out the team score for the Mountain Lions.
UCCS improved its team score by six strokes in the second round with a four-over 292 in the afternoon. It's the second best round of the spring and tied for the sixth-best in the fall and spring seasons. The Mountain Lions are head of three teams ranked ahead of them in the latest GolfStat Division II ranking. UCCS is four strokes behind Dixie State in the team standings and 11 off of tournament leader California State-San Marcos.
The Mountain Lions will complete the tournament with a final round on Tuesday morning.
