DENVER – Three Mountain Lions tied in the first round with a six-over 78 as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs tied for third with a 25-over 313 on the first day of the Bob Writz Invitational at Bear Creek Golf Club.
Colin Prater,
Tanner Comes and
Zach Berhost are in a tie for No. 14.
The trio are six strokes off the lead.
Colin Prater and
Tanner Comes each recorded one birdie in the round while Berhost used three birdies to reach his 78.
Blake Young finished one stroke behind the three and rounded out the Mountain Lions team score with a 79.
Ji Jang turned in an 80 and is tied for No. 23 among the 63 golfers.
UCCS is tied with Colorado Christian and the two teams are one stroke behind host Colorado Mines. Colorado State-Pueblo leads the 10-team tournament with 23-over as the RMAC holds the top four team positions.
The Mountain Lions will be in the last group to tee off with the other three top teams in Sunday's final round. The first golfers will tee off from hole one at 12:30 p.m. UCCS will have two individual golfers,
Chadd Vasquez and
Dylan Mitchell, begin earlier at noon and 12:20 p.m., respectively.
