Colin Prater turned in a 5-under 67 and led an 11-stroke team improvement as the Mountain Lions finished No. 12 at the Cactus Thaw Regional Preview at Brookside Country Club. Prater finished in a tie for No. 13 with a two-round score of 141 for 3-under par.
Prater closed out today's round with three straight birdies and went 5-under par on the final seven holes. He tied for the third-best round of the day and cut seven strokes off yesterday's first round. Prater tied for the best finish by an RMAC golfer in the tournament in his 13th round of the season at or below par.
Blake Young and
Tanner Comes both finished with an even 72 in the second and third scores for UCCS today. Young finished the tournament in a tie for No. 38 overall with an even two-round score of 144. Comes opened the round with birdies on holes 10 through 12 and finished the tournament with a 146.
Zach Berhost closed out the team score with a 74 and made a pair of birdies on the final seven holes.
Dylan Mitchell turned in a 76 today and was even on holes one through nine.
The Mountain Lions improved one spot to No. 12 in the third-best team round of the season. UCCS finished three strokes behind California State-San Bernardino and five strokes behind tenth-place Dixie State. The Mountain Lions finished second among the six RMAC teams in the tournament.
UCCS will be off for two weeks before going back to California for the East-West Invitational Feb. 27-28, at The Course at Wente Vineyards in Livermore, Calif.
