KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team is set to face No. 2-ranked Carson-Newman (Tenn.) in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Thursday morning.
Game time is scheduled for 10 a.m. MST with the contest being played at Swope Soccer Village.
The No. 23-ranked Mountain Lions are making a historic run through the postseason as the program has made many firsts, including their first RMAC Tournament title and South Central Regional championship.
UCCS (17-4-1) entered the NCAA tournament as the region's No. 2-seed and hosted first and second round games.
Tarah Patterson has led the Mountain Lions on offense as the midfielder has notched two goals while also adding an assist over three games in the tournament. In all the transfer has led UCCS this season with 22 points (9 goals, 5 assists) while starting all 22 games.
In goal, Taylor Proctor has posted four of her five shutouts in the postseason. The senior has allowed just three goals over six post season games. Through 19 starts and 21 appearances, Proctor holds a .864 saves percentage and a 0.64 goals against average.
In the Mountain Lions last outing, Proctor made two stops in a penalty kick shootout against No. 3-ranked UC-San Diego as UCCS advanced 4-3 after a 1-1 draw against the Tritons.
Carson-Newman (20-0-1) have won three straight South Atlantic Conference tournament titles and are making their third appearance in the NCAA semifinals.
The Eagles are led by Lauren Wade who has amassed 47 points (17 goals, 13 assists) and Magda Mosengo who has 44 points (16 goals, 12 assists) through 21 games.
As a team, Carson-Newman have outscored their opponents 69 to 10 in 2017.
In goal, Jacqueline Burns enters the game with a .890 saves percentage and a 0.39 goals against average while recording 11 shutouts.
Tomorrow's game against the Eagles marks the first meeting between the two programs.
The winner will advance to the championship game and face either the tournament's top-seed Central Missouri or No. 17-ranked Mercy (N.Y.) on Saturday at 12 p.m. MST.
