KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Coming off big victories during the opening weekend, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team climbed up into the top five, landing at No. 4 in the Week 1 United Soccer Coaches National Poll on Tuesday afternoon.
 
After capturing the 2025 NCAA DII National Championship, the Florida Institute of Technology stayed on top of the national poll after two 4-1 victories to start the season. The Mountain Lions were the only top 25 school in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Although, Colorado School of Mines received votes in the Week 1 poll.
 
The Mountain Lions opened the 2026 campaign at home with a convincing 6-2 victory against a Point Loma Nazarene University team that received votes in the preseason poll. They followed this game up with a weekend trip to Bellingham, Wash., as they defeated then #18 nationally ranked Western Washington University 1-0. After scoring three goals over the weekend, senior forward Abby Stassi earned RMAC Offensive Player of the Week. Not to be outdone, as freshman goalkeeper Lucy Kapranos started off her collegiate career with one clean sheet and seven saves that earned her the RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week.
 
The UCCS women's soccer program will continue their home schedule this week as they welcome St. Edward's University into Mountain Lion Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a matchup against No. 7 nationally ranked Dallas Baptist University for a noon kickoff on Sunday, Sept. 6.
