BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team took just two shots on goal to claim a 1-0 victory over No. 18 Western Washington University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions' offense once again started off hot, as their first shot of the game turned into a goal in the fourth minute of action. Elise Broberg notched her team-leading third assist of the season on a free kick from 40 yards out where Abby Stassi was there to put UCCS on the board with a header.
- The Vikings' first opportunity of the game came on a corner kick in the 15th minute. The ball would find its way in front of the net, and a shot by WWU's Mie Cairns almost bounced in before Ally Henry came in to clear it and hold the Mountain Lions' one goal lead.
- The UCCS offense was stifled for the rest of the half as the team struggled to find a rhythm. Stassi's goal within the first five minutes of gameplay would be one of two shots for the Mountain Lions in the first half, but despite a 9-2 shot discrepancy, the lead stayed at 1-0 heading into halftime.
- Western Washington saw a great scoring chance in the 49th minute when Triya Mitchell broke away from all UCCS defenders, leaving freshman goalkeeper Lucy Kapranos to make a sprawling save with her left leg to keep the Mountain Lions on top.
- After much silence from the UCCS offense, Brooke Pavlich had the best look of the game since the team's opening goal in the 53rd minute when she tried to convert a header on another impressive pass from Broberg. WWU's goalkeeper Ellie McGowan ultimately made a great save to put an end to the Mountain Lions' chance.
- While the Vikings would have a few more chances to tie the match at one goal apiece, the defensive battle would continue. WWU took 10 shots in the second half, but the Mountain Lions continued to hold their lead and win their second match of the season 1-0.
STATS FROM THE GAME
- The Mountain Lions put two of their five shots on goal, as WWU put eight of its 19 on goal.
- Stassi netted her third goal of the season in the fourth minute of action.
- Broberg notched her third assist of the season on Stassi's goal early on.
- Kapranos tallied six saves in the team's first shutout victory of the season.
- The Vikings led the game in corner kicks with six in the afternoon, to the Mountain Lions' three.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Mountain Lions hand the Vikings their first loss at home since Sept. 22, 2024, which came against Colorado School of Mines.
- Kapranos earned the first clean sheet of her collegiate career, notching six saves in the process.
