COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team defeated St. Edward's 3-1 inside Mountain Lion Stadium, extending their winning streak to three games and remaining undefeated to begin the 2026 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions started off strong by logging five shots in the first 12 minutes of play against the Hilltoppers. SEU gained their first scoring opportunity off a free kick just outside the box, but was denied by UCCS' well-placed four-man wall. The Hilltoppers were awarded another free kick moments later, but their shot was swiftly cleared by a Mountain Lion defender and the match continued on scoreless.
- 30 minutes after kickoff, Luka Johnson, Ally Henry, and Sophia Broberg were subbed into play. With fresh legs, UCCS penetrated SEU defensive territory continuously. Elise Broberg found herself with the opportunity to cross, finding Abby Stassi who rocketed a shot towards the top right corner of the net. Daria Schlumbohm made a jaw-dropping diving save and denied the Mountain Lion shot, keeping the score at 0-0.
- The Hilltoppers subbed in Claire Smith at striker in hopes of finding some attacking momentum, but were quickly shut down as Luka Johnson made a cutback cross wide-open Charlize Ellsworth on top of the six, who went on to score her first collegiate goal and force SEU to a 1-0 deficit.
- Just 17 minutes later, Elise Broberg capitalized off a poor Hilltopper goal kick and quickly beat two SEU defenders before blasting a shot into the lower right corner of the goal from way downtown. UCCS led 2-0 going into the 59th minute of play.
- With 19 minutes remaining in the second half, the Hilltoppers closed the gap to a single point after a Mountain Lion defender mistakenly passed the ball towards the middle of the box. Madison Creswell exploited the error, slotting her shot into the lower left corner of the goal with one touch and earning SEU their sole goal of the night. Seniors Regan Dare and Alyssa Sutherland entered the match to log their first appearances of the 2026 season, making an immediate impact on the field and providing UCCS with some necessary energy after a mid-game slump.
- The Mountain Lions scored their final goal against SEU in the 77th minute as the ball was beautifully lofted in front of Brooke Pavlich on the run. Collecting the ball, Pavlich juked a Hilltopper defender and placed the ball on her right side, setting herself up perfectly for a back-post shot. As the ball sailed into the top right corner of the net, UCCS' 3-1 victory was sealed.
STATS FROM THE GAME
- The Mountain Lions outshot the Hilltoppers 21 to eight with nine shots on goal to SEU's three. UCCS also led the game in corner kicks four to nil.
- Elise Broberg, Brooke Pavlich, and Charlize Ellsworth each scored a single goal against the Hilltoppers while Luka Johnson and Ellsworth both recorded one assist.
- Mountain Lions goalkeeper, Lilliana Brinkmeier, played all 90 minutes and logged two saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Sophomore goalkeeper Lilliana Brinkmeier recorded her first career start for UCCS tonight.
- Freshman Charlize Ellsworth scored her first collegiate goal against the Hilltoppers, while Elise Broberg scored her first goal of the season.
- Seniors Regan Dare and Alyssa Sutherland made their first appearances this season, along with sophomore Sarah Griffin.
- UCCS remains undefeated with an overall record of 3-0-0 in non-conference play, the team's first 3-0 start to a season since 2020.
