KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After a win and loss this past weekend, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team lands at No. 8 in the Week 2 United Soccer Coaches National Poll on Tuesday afternoon.
The Florida Institute of Technology stays on top of the national poll after continuing its dominant start to the season with two victories, including a win vs then-No. 11 Ashland University. The Mountain Lions are the only institution in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference to be featured on the national poll. UCCS is one of three programs from the South-Central Region to appear in the national rankings, with No. 4 Dallas Baptist University and No. 15 Texas Woman's University joining them.
The Mountain Lions opened this past weekend with a 3-1 home win vs. St. Edward's University on Thursday night. On Sunday, UCCS faced then-No. 7 ranked Dallas Baptist, with the Patriots outscoring the Mountain Lions in a 3-2 loss.
The Mountain Lion's offense scored five goals over the weekend, as they lead the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in total goals scored with 12. Junior forward
Brooke Pavlich scored two goals in the two games, increasing her goal count to four this season, and becoming the Mountain Lions' top scorer.
Elise Broberg and
Sophia Broberg both scored over the weekend, opening their accounts for the season. This weekend was also a special moment for Freshman forward
Charlize Ellsworth, as she got her first collegiate goal and assist during the 3-1 win vs. St. Edward's.
The UCCS women's soccer program travels to Northern California this week as they face California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. (MT). Afterwards, they will head south to face California State University, Chico for a 12 p.m. (MT) kickoff on Sunday, Sept. 13.
