GOODYEAR, Ariz. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs junior golfer
Colin Prater went back and forth for the lead with Arizona Christian's Domenick Postorino during today's final round, but Prater finished as the runner-up by one stroke with a 4-under 212 at the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate. The Mountain Lions finished sixth in the team standings with a 36-over 900 at the Golf Club of Estrella.
Prater was 3-under through the first 13 holes with five birdies, but a double-bogey on hole 16 moved him behind Postorino late in today's round. It was Prater's fourth runner-up performance or win in the last five tournaments since the South Central Region Crossover on April 11-12, and his sixth straight top-10 finish since the Mustang Intercollegiate April 4-5. He was the top golfer among the teams from the South Central Region by three strokes and the top in the RMAC by seven strokes.
Tanner Comes finished with a 3-over 75 to match his second round score from yesterday afternoon and recorded the second UCCS team score of today's round. He tied for No. 29 in the overall results with a 10-over 226 in his first college tournament as a member of the scoring team.
Chadd Vasquez shot a 77 today and
Zach Berhost closed out the team score with an 80.
UCCS shot a 15-over 303 in today's round and finished five strokes behind fifth-place CSU-Pueblo and six behind fourth-place St. Mary's.
The Mountain Lions continue the fall season next week, Oct.3-4, at the Division II National Preview, hosted by Saint Leo at the Reunion Resort in Kississimee, Fla.
