Colin Prater is second with one hole left to play in the second round as the Mountain Lions stand fifth on the first day of the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Estrella. Prater is 3-under par through 35 holes and UCCS is 19-over with Prater and
Zach Berhost left to finish the second round.
Prater opened the day with 5-under through the first eight holes and finished the first round with a 2-under 70. He made two more birdies on hole 13 and 17 before darkness suspended play. Prater is two strokes off of the lead held by Arizona Christian's Domenick Postorino, who was able to finish his round today.
Berhost recorded an eagle on hole 13 in both rounds and is tied for No. 19 at 5-over par with one hole left in the round. He added five more birdies between the two rounds and has the second-best score for the Mountain Lions in the rounds.
Tanner Comes improved by one stroke from the morning to the afternoon with a 76 and 75, respectively. He is tied for No. 29 at 7-over.
Blake Young improved his score by two strokes and is 12 strokes over par with a 156 (79-77). Young's score will calculate into the UCCS second round team score.
Chadd Vasquez counted in the first round score with a 77, but finished the second round with a 12-over 84.
The Mountain Lions are on pace to improve by six strokes in the second round pending the final hole scores for Prater and Berhost on Tuesday morning. UCCS is one stroke behind Arizona Christian and three behind St. Mary's. The Mountain Lions are first among the five RMAC teams in the field.
The second round will resume at 8:30 a.m., MDT, with the third round to begin immediately after the conclusion of the round. The pairings will remain the same for the final round, and UCCS will remain with La Verne, Northeastern State and Texas A&M-Commerce.
