Colin Prater finished one stroke away from tying the RMAC record with a 12-under 201 as he won the first conference event of the season by 17 strokes at the Club at Ravenna today. The Mountain Lions improved to a runner-up finish in the team standings in the first tournament of the 2016-17 season.
Prater's 201 is second in RMAC history for a conference event behind former Mountain Lion Riley Andrews, who recorded a 200 on Sept. 22-23, 2008, at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney, Neb. Prater made four birdies and an eagle today, and finished with a tournament-best 14 birdies and two eagles.
Zach Berhost and
Ji Jang tied for No. 16 in the overall standings with a 16-over 229. Berhost had the second-best score for the Mountain Lions in today's round with a 4-over 75 and Jang finished his first collegiate tournament with a 7-over 78.
Chadd Vasquez rounded out the UCCS team score with a 15-over 86 and tied for No. 41 overall with a 244 (+31).
Tanner Comes finished eighth in the standings as an individual golfer with a 10-over 223 after a 74 in today's round.
Dylan Mitchell's 89 didn't factor into today's team score.
UCCS moved ahead of Colorado Christian during the round with a 22-over 306 team score. The Mountain Lions finished with a 902 for 50 strokes over par in the opening tournament of the season. Colorado Mines won the tournament with a 20-over 882.
This week's RMAC event marked the first of five straight tournament weeks for UCCS. The Mountain Lions will travel to the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate Sept. 26-27, at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
