Prater Holds Commanding Lead After First Day of RMAC Event

Mountain Lions third in team standings after first two rounds

LITTLETON, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs junior Colin Prater opened with a 66 in the morning and followed with a 68 in the afternoon to take a 10-stroke lead in the first RMAC event of the season at the Club at Ravenna. The Mountain Lions are third in the team standings and two strokes off of the lead shared by Colorado Mines and Colorado Christian.

Prater recorded an eagle in the morning round on the par-5 second hole and made 10 birdies between the two rounds. His 66 in the morning matched the best round of his career. Prater leads Trevor McKune of Colorado Mesa by 10 strokes with a two-round score of 136 on the par 71 course.

Ji Jang opened his collegiate career with a 74 this morning and closed with a 77 in the afternoon. He had the second-best scores for UCCS in both rounds is in a tie for No. 13 in the overall standings with a 9-over 151. Zach Berhost matched Jang's morning score, but finished with 9-over 80 in the second round in the score that was dropped for the Mountain Lion team score. He is tied for No. 23 in the standings at 154.

Chadd Vasquez also used his first tournament of his Mountain Lion career to turn in a pair of 8-over 79s and is No. 34 among the 59 golfers. Dylan Mitchell lowered his score by seven strokes in the afternoon with an 8-over 79 after his 15-over 85 in the morning.

Tanner Comes came off a redshirt season in 2015-16 and is No. 11 as an individual with a 7-over 149. He improved by one stroke between the two rounds and is fourth among freshmen in the tournament.

The Mountain Lions shot a 9-over 293 in the morning as a team, but lost 10 strokes in the afternoon with a 303. UCCS is 11 strokes ahead of fourth-place Colorado Mesa going into the final round on Tuesday morning.

UCCS, Colorado Mines, Colorado Christian and Colorado Mesa will paired together in the final round on holes 15 through 18 and on hole one. The teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m.
