GOODYEAR, Ariz. – No. 18 University of Colorado Colorado Springs recorded its best tournament score of the season with a 14-under 850, led by 71 performances from
Kyle Southard and
Zach Tripp, as the Mountain Lions finished second at the Mustang Intercollegiate today at Palm Valley Golf Club. Southard and
Colin Prater both tied for ninth in the tournament standings with a 5-under 211.
UCCS finished today's third round with a 4-over 292 and the 850 overall score was five strokes behind tournament winner BYU-Hawaii. The Mountain Lions recorded three of their top 10 rounds this season in this week's tournament, including two of the top three in yesterday's action.
Southard went 4-under on the first 10 holes of the day and Tripp made an eagle on hole 11 as the pair led the team with a 71 today. Southard moved up to No. 9 for this second top-10 finish of the season and his 5-under 211 was his best tournament score of the season. Tripp finished in a tie for No. 15 with a 213 tournament score for 2-under.
Prater shot a 76 in today's round and finished in the top 10 overall for the fifth time in his eighth tournament this season. He also recorded an eagle on hole 11 and went 1-under on the back nine. He tied for ninth as UCCS placed three golfers in the top 15 in a field of 100 players.
Chris Reina and
Zach Berhost both finished with a 75 today and both factored into the team score. Berhost made four birdies to offset a triple-bogey on hole eight and Reina made a birdie on hole six for the second straight round. Reina recorded a tournament score of 217 for 1-over par to tie for No. 30, and Berhost finished three strokes behind in a tie for No. 48.
UCCS will finish the regular season next week with the South Central Region Crossover hosted by CSU-Pueblo April 11-12. The ThunderWolves will host at the Walking Stick Golf Course.
