UCCS Wins Fourth Tournament of the Season at Region Crossover

PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs closed out the regular season with its fourth tournament win of the season and Colin Prater finished second for his best placement of the spring season at the South Central Crossover in at the Pueblo Country Club. The Mountain Lions finished with a tournament score below par for the second straight week with a 5-under 847. 

UCCS has won or finished as the runner-up in its last three tournaments. The Mountain Lions shot a 5-under 279 today to pass Colorado Christian in the standings today. It was the sixth round of the season below par and the fifth of the spring season.

Prater recorded his fourth top-five finish and sixth top-10 finish in his ninth tournament of the season with an 8-under 205 over 54 holes. He turned in a 70 today for 1-under and finished a stroke off of the leader. Prater has four tournaments with a score below par this season and is a combined 1-over in his 12 rounds of the spring season.

Kyle Southard led the field with a 68 in today's round and moved into a tie for third with a 2-under 211.  It was his second top-three finish in the last three tournaments, and his third straight tournament with a score below par.

Chris Reina recorded a 70 for the second straight round and was even through the tournament with a 213 to tie for fifth. He finished in the top five for the first time this season with his best tournament score of the season. Zach Berhost accounted for the final team score for the Mountain Lions with an even 71 today and tied for No. 14 with an 8-over 211.

Dylan Mitchell placed seventh as an individual golfer with a 3-over 216, and Zach Tripp placed ninth with a 6-over 219 after a 72 today. Blake Young placed one stroke behind Berhost in the overall standings with a 222 for a tie for No. 17, as all seven Mountain Lions finished in the top 20 of the overall results.

UCCS, the RMAC regular season champions, will play for the conference tournament title next week. The RMAC will use a match-play eight-team tournament to determine the champion, and UCCS will be the No. 1 seed and play No. 8 seed Regis in the quarterfinals. Teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m., MDT, on April 18, at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
