PUEBLO, Colo. –
Colin Prater shot a 7-under 135 and is one of four Mountain Lions in the top nine of the overall results as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs is in second after the first day of the South Central Crossover at the Pueblo Country Club. Prater is second and one stroke off of the lead in the field of 45 golfers.
Prater led the tournament after the first round with a 66 and followed with a 69 in the afternoon. He has shot under par in five of his last six rounds since March 29, and in 12 of his 25 rounds this season. Prater is in position for his fourth top-five finish of the season.
Kyle Southard,
Chris Reina and
Dylan Mitchell are in six-way tie for fourth with a 1-over 143. Mitchell is in position for his first top-five finish of the season as an individual golfer, while Southard and Reina both turned in rounds that counted in the UCCS team score. Mitchell led the trio with a 68 in the first round and finished the day with a 75. Reina opened with a 73 and improved by three strokes in the second round, and Southard cut his score by five strokes with a 69 in the second round.
Zach Tripp rounded out the team score in both rounds with a 75 in the morning and a 72 in the afternoon. He is tied for No. 16 with a 5-over 147 with teammate
Blake Young, who played an individual this tournament.
Zach Berhost turned in scores of 76 and 74 and is No. 26 with an 8-over 150.
The Mountain Lions recorded a 4-under 280 in the second round to offset and 4-over 288 in the first round for an even 568 through the first two rounds. The second round performance was the fourth-best round of the season and the fourth under-par performance in the last six rounds since March 29. UCCS is four strokes behind Colorado Christian and nine strokes ahead of Colorado State-Pueblo.
UCCS will finish the tournament with the third round at 9 a.m., on Tuesday.
