UCCS Third After Day One of St. Edward's Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas – Kyle Southard and Zach Tripp both tied for eighth overall with a 3-over 143 after the first two rounds as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team came in third on the first day of the St. Edward's Invitational at Onion Creek Golf Club. The Mountain Lions shot a 19-over 579 and is four strokes off of the tournament lead.

Southard and Tripp switched scores between the first and second round. Southard held the advantage in the first round with a 1-over 71 on two birdies, and Tripp shot his 71 in the second round with a pair of birdies. The two Mountain Lions are one stroke away from a top five finish and three strokes from a top three place.

Chris Reina led UCCS in the morning with a 70 for par and is tied for No. 12 overall with a 145 after a 75 in the afternoon. Colin Prater improved by six strokes between the two rounds and shot a 1-over 71 in the afternoon. Zach Berhost improved by four strokes during the day with a 79 in the second round.

UCCS was second after the first round with a 290 and lowered its team score by a stroke in the afternoon. The Mountain Lions are two strokes behind Oklahoma Christian and four behind leader Central Missouri. The three teams will be paired together for tomorrow's final round and will begin on holes 1 through 4 at 7:30 a.m., MDT.
