Colin Prater shot a 1-over par 145 and tied for the tournament lead after the first two rounds of the 66th Annual SoCal Intercollegiate at Carlton Oaks Golf Club. The Mountain Lions improved by two strokes in the second round and is seventh in the team standings with a 36-over 612.
Prater opened the day with a 1-under 71 and was tied for second after the first 18 holes. He shot a 74 in the second round and moved into a four-way tie for the lead with Dixie State's Donny Hopoi, California State-Monterey Bay's Robby Salomon and California State-Dominguez Hills' Christopher Pham. Prater's 145 was his best 36-hole score since the Division II National Preview on Sept. 21.
Zach Berhost made an 11-stroke improvement from the first to second round and had the second-best tournament score for the Mountain Lions with a 153. He turned in a 71 in the second round for the best score on the team and the fourth-best among the 60 golfers, to move to a tie for No. 23 overall.
Kyle Southard posted a 156 today with a 77 in the first round and a 79 in the second. He tied for No. 37 overall and his scores were among the UCCS team scores in both rounds.
Zach Tripp turned in a 77 in the opening round before an 82 in the second round for a 161 to tie for No. 57, and
Blake Young used a pair of 81 scores for his 162.
UCCS improved by two strokes with a 305 in the afternoon after a 307 to start the day. The Mountain Lions are three strokes behind sixth-place California State-Stanislaus and five strokes out of the fourth-place teams of Sonoma State and Dominican.
The Mountain Lions will start the third and final round at 9 a.m., MDT.
