KISSIMMEE, Fla. –
Colin Prater finished with a 1-over 145 through the first two rounds in a strong field of nationally-ranked teams at the Division II National Preview today on the Watson Course at the Reunion Resort. The Mountain Lions improved by 16 strokes in the second round and is No. 15 in the team standings through 36 holes.
Prater opened the day with a 2-over 74 and lowered his score by three strokes in the afternoon with a 1-under 71. He improved by nine positions in the second round and is tied for No. 27 in the individual standings. Prater made six birdies between today's two rounds.
Tanner Comes and
Zach Berhost turned in identical scores in the two rounds with a 77 in the morning and a 74 in the afternoon. The pair are tied for No. 62 with a 7-over 151.
Ji Jang improved by eight strokes with a 73 in the afternoon after his morning score of 81 was dropped from the team score.
Dylan Mitchell's 80 rounded out the UCCS team score in the first round, and despite a two-stroke improvement in the afternoon, the 78 was dropped from the Mountain Lion team score.
UCCS finished with a 4-over 292 in the afternoon as all five golfers improved by multiple strokes. The Mountain Lions are four strokes behind Central Missouri and seven behind Armstrong State on the same course that will host the national championships in May. Fourteen of the 18 teams in the tournament, including UCCS, are either nationally ranked or receiving votes in the latest Golfweek Division II National Coaches Poll. The top five teams in the nation are all in the tournament field.
The Mountain Lions will be paired with Georgia Southwestern State and North Alabama for the final round on Tuesday. The three teams will tee off on holes nine through 11 with a shotgun start at 6:30 a.m., MDT.
