LAS CRUCES, N.M. –
Zach Berhost shot a 2-under-par 69 to lead a seven-stroke improvement by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs as the Mountain Lions finished in a tie for No. 10 in the Western New Mexico Regional Preview today at the New Mexico State University Golf Course. UCCS shot a 4-over-par 288 today and finished the tournament at 15-over-par with 583.
Berhost started today's round with a 3-under score through the first five holes. A double bogey on hole 10 moved him to 1-under-par but he used two birdies on the back nine to offset another bogey and conclude the round with his 2-under 69. Berhost led the team with a two-round score of 144 for 2-over-par and tied for No. 17 in the individual standings.
Colin Prater improved his score by four strokes today and recorded three birdies on the back nine to finish with a 1-over-par 72.
Zach Tripp matched his Monday score with a 73 today and
Kyle Southard rounded out the team score with a 74. Southard tied for No. 25 for his third top-25 finish of the season and the sixth of his UCCS career.
The Mountain Lions recorded the eighth-best round of the day among the 24 teams and improved by two spots in the team standings. Today's round was the fifth-best of the season in relation to par. California State-Monterey Bay won the team title with a 3-over-par 571.
UCCS will be off next week ahead of the RMAC South event on Oct. 12-13 at Paako Ridge Golf Club in Sandia Park, N.M.
