DENVER –
Zach Tripp recorded a two-round score of 141 for 3-under-par and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs improved by eight strokes in the second round and is tied for No. 10 after the first day of the NCAA Division II National Preview at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. The Mountain Lions are 8-over-par with a two-round score of 584 after the opening day.
Tripp made four birdies on a six-hole stretch on holes 11 through 16 and hit a 69 in the second round after an even score in the morning round. The 69 was one stroke off of his career-best round and he is fifth among 110 golfers with nine birdies between the first two rounds.
Colin Prater opened his day with birdies on his first two holes and finished the first round with a 1-under-par 71. He shot a 73 in the second round for an even score after the first day and is tied for No. 22 in the overall standings with a 144.
Kyle Southard finished with a tournament score one stroke behind Prater with a 73 in the first round and a 72 in the second. He recorded an eagle on hole 12 in the second round.
Zach Berhost wrapped up the Mountain Lion team score in the first round with an 80 while
Blake Young provided the final score in the team score in the second round with a 74, a 9-stroke improvement for him from the morning round.
The Mountain Lions are one stroke behind Colorado Mines in the team standings after an even 288 in the afternoon. UCCS had the fourth-best team score on the par-3 holes. The Mountain Lions are tied with Central Oklahoma.
UCCS will tee off in the final round on Tuesday at 7:45 a.m., on holes 11 through 15. The Mountain Lions will be paired with golfers from Colorado Mines, Central Oklahoma and St. Mary's.
