THORNTON, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team shot 1-under-par through two rounds and
Zach Berhost is 2-under-par in the individual standings as the Mountain Lions completed the first day of the RMAC North event today at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. UCCS is two strokes off of the team lead in the first tournament of the 2015-16 season.
Berhost opened the day with a 68 in the first round with eight birdies, including three straight on holes two through four. He was third in the standings after the round. Berhost moved to 5-under-par three holes into his second round, but a triple bogey on hole two moved him to 2-under-par. He played even on the remaining holes for a two-round score of 142. Berhost is fifth in the tournament standings and three strokes behind the leader.
Colin Prater made his first collegiate golf appearance since the spring of 2014 with a two-round score of 144. He is eighth in the standings and improved six strokes from his opening round with a 69 in the second round. Prater recorded an eagle on the par-5 hole four and was one of 15 golfers among 66 to make an eagle today.
Kyle Southard and
Zach Tripp are both in position for their second collegiate top-10 finishes with a tie for No. 10 at 146. Southard was even in his first round with a 72 and finished the afternoon round with a 74. Tripp lowered his score by six strokes in the second round with a 70 after his opening 76 was dropped for the team score calculation in the morning round.
Blake Young's 73 this morning made up the Mountain Lions' 288 for an even team score, but his 76 was not used for the team score of 287 in the afternoon.
UCCS was the only team to shoot under par in the second round at 1-under, and is two strokes behind tournament leader CSU-Pueblo. The Mountain Lions are six strokes ahead of third-place Western New Mexico.
The Mountain Lions will be paired with teams from both CSU-Pueblo and Western New Mexico when the final round starts at 8 a.m., on Tuesday.
