Patrick Skakel will play in one more tournament after his shared victory in the 2015 NCAA Division II West / South Central Region Championships at the Hiddenbrooke Golf Club. UCCS finished No. 14 in the team standings after a 305 in its best round of the tournament.
Skakel's finish will take him to the 2015 NCAA Division II National Championships later this month in Conover, N.C. It was his first tournament victory of his career and his third top-five finish in 11 tournaments this season. He tied with California State-Monterey Bay's Ray Richards with a three-round score of 217 for 1-over par.
Skakel and
Zach Tripp both shot a 74 today to pace the Mountain Lions in the final round. Tripp recorded four birdies today in his best round of the tournament. He put together a 54-hole score of 240 for 24-over par for the second straight tournament.
Dustin Dalzell also turned in his best round of the week with a 77 today with a pair of birdies.
Stephen Cook finished the final nine holes with a 1-over 37 and provided the final team score for UCCS today with an 80. The two tied in the overall tournament standings with a 238.
Zach Berhost finished with an 87 in today's round and with a 250 in the three rounds.
UCCS improved for four strokes in each round and finished two strokes out of a tie for No. 12 and five strokes out of the top 10. The Mountain Lions advanced to the regional championships for the 14th consecutive season.
Skakel will compete in the three-round stroke play portion of the 2015 NCAA Division II National Championships May 18-20 at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa. It will be his first national championship appearance.
