Patrick Skakel recorded back-to-back birdies to close out the opening round of the 2015 NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championships at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa. Skakel is tied for fourth with a score of 69 for 2-under par.
Skakel shot for par on the first eight holes of day and made the turn with a 1-over 36 after a bogey on hole 9. He moved back to an even score with a birdie on hole 10 and went back to 1-over after a bogey on hole 11. Skakel finished the round with birdies on three of the final four holes, including birdies on the par-3 holes 15 and 17. He improved his score to 2-under with another birdie on hole 18.
Skakel is tied with South Carolina-Aiken's Hubert Tisserand and is one stroke behind Nova Southeastern's Oscar Lengden and Richard Mansell for second place. Central Missouri's Sam Migdal leads the field of 108 golfers with a 66 for 5-under par.
Skakel will begin the second round from hole 10 at 6:58 a.m., MDT.
