GOODYEAR, Ariz. –
Zach Tripp continued to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs with a 70 in today's round as the Mountain Lions finished fourth in the Western New Mexico Mustang Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club.
Stephen Cook also added a second top-10 finish for the Mountain Lions with ninth among the 88 golfers.
Tripp recorded five birdies in today's round and finished with a tournament score of 210 for 6-under par. It was his best tournament score and his best finish of his career. Tripp tied with California State-Monterey Bay's Fredrik Jullim and was one stroke behind Western New Mexico's Harry Wetton.
Stephen Cook finished in the top-10 for the third consecutive tournament and finished at 1-under par with a 215. It was his best tournament score since September and he finished with a 72 today for his 10th round this season at or under par.
Zach Berhost turned in his best round of the tournament with a 73. He birdied on holes 11 and 15 to finish the back nine with a 1-under 35. He finished with a tournament score of 229 for 13 strokes over par.
Patrick Skakel provided the final Mountain Lion team score of the round with a 74 after he shot a 1-under 35 on the front nine. Â He finished in a tie for No. 22 with a tournament score of 221 at 5-over par, his best three-round tournament score since the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate last September.
UCCS recorded its second consecutive round with an individual hole no worse than a bogey and with 13 birdies among the four scoring golfers. The Mountain Lions came in three strokes behind California State-Monterey Bay, the ninth-ranked team in the latest GolfStat rankings.
The Mountain Lions will be off next week to prepare for the RMAC Championships April 20-21 at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz. UCCS has 11 conference regular season or tournament championships since 2000.
