GOODYEAR, Ariz. –
Patrick Skakel shot a 141 and finished second after the first day of the 2015 RMAC Championships at the Golf Club of Estrella. The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's team tied for fifth with a two-round score of 604 in the team standings.
Skakel tied for the tournament lead after the first round with a 70 and shot a 71 in the second round off of eight combined birdies. It was his best score through the first two rounds of a tournament since the Palmer Foundation Invitational last September and his 70 tied for the ninth-best round for a Mountain Lion this season. Skakel is in position to finish as the conference runner-up for the second straight season.
Stephen Cook turned in the second-best team score for UCCS in both rounds and is tied for No. 12 with a 149. He was even on the back nine of the first round and the front nine of the second round. Cook improved by one stroke in the afternoon round with at 74.
Dustin Dalzell used his first tournament of the spring to turn in a 155 for No. 29 in the overall standings. He opened with a 79 and improved by three strokes to a 76 in the second round. It was his best score this season through the first 36 holes.
Zach Tripp provided the final team score for UCCS in the first round with an 80. The Mountain Lions were seventh after the first round with a 304.
Zach Berhost turned in the final score for UCCS in the second round with a 79 and his four-stroke improvement matched the Mountain Lions' progress. The UCCS score of 300 was the fourth-best in the tournament and pushed the Mountain Lions in to a tie for fifth with Colorado Mesa after two rounds.
UCCS will be paired with Mesa and Colorado Christian for the final round at 8:30 a.m., MDT, on Tuesday.
