UCCS Improves to Sixth, Cook to Second, in Final Round of Pioneer Shootout

VALLEJO, Calif. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior Stephen Cook tied for second in his best individual finish of the season as the Mountain Lions climbed four spots and tied for sixth in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by California State-East Bay at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course. He shot a 74 in today's round and finished the tournament with a 221.

Cook birdied four holes and recorded his best tournament score since the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate last September.  It was his fourth top-five finish of his two-year Mountain Lion career and his best finish since he won the Dallas Baptist Classic in April 2014.

Zach Tripp turned in his best round of the tournament today with a 75 and tied for No. 57 overall with a 236. He had the 11th best round of the day among the 108 golfers with three birdies. Patrick Skakel matched his second round from yesterday with a 77 today and finished in the top 20 overall with a 228.

Zach Berhost improved by six strokes in Monday's second round to finish with an 81 to round out the Mountain Lion team score of 307. UCCS lowered its team score by nine strokes and came within three strokes of Western New Mexico in the team standings.

UCCS will compete in its final non-championship tournament of the season at the Western New Mexico Mustang Intercollegiate next Monday and Tuesday. It will be the final tune-up before the RMAC Championships April 20-21 at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
