SANTEE, Calif. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs is two strokes off the team lead and
Kyle Southard is two strokes off the individual lead after the first two rounds of the SoCal Intercollegiate hosted by UC San Diego at the Carlton Oaks Golf Club. The Mountain Lions are two strokes behind California State Monterey Bay, the sixth-ranked team in the nation.
Southard shot a 148 in the two rounds with a 72 for par in the opening round and a 76 in the second round. He tied for the tournament lead on scoring for par 4 holes and finished with four birdies in the first 36 holes today.Â
Stephen Cook and
Zach Berhost each turned in a 149 to tie for sixth in the standings. Cook shot a 71 in the first round to lead the Mountain Lions and Berhost recorded an eagle and eight birdies for a 72-77 performance in the two rounds.
Patrick Skakel's 79 provided the final team score in the first round and he improved to a 78 in the afternoon round.
Zach Tripp improved by seven strokes to a 73 in the second round for his best round since the season-opening tournament in September.
UCCS was one stroke off of Cal State Monterey Bay in each of the first two rounds, and has an 11-stroke advantage against third-place Cal State East Bay. The opening round was the best team performance since the third round of the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate on Sept. 30.
The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., MDT.
