MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs improved by seven strokes from the first round to the second round and is No. 12 after the first two rounds of the Buccaneer Invitational, hosted by Barry University at the Normandy Shores Golf Club. Stephen Cook was even through the first two rounds with a 142 (72-70) and is tied for No. 13 in the individual results.
Cook recorded an eagle in the opening round and led the tournament with a score of four-under on the par 5 holes to finish with a 72 on the first 18 holes. He lowered his score by another two strokes in the afternoon and finished the round one-under par and was an even for the tournament on the par-71 course.
Patrick Skakel recorded the second team scores for UCCS in both rounds with 74-73 to finish with a 147. He was tied for No. 36 in the overall results and is five-over par through the opening two rounds for the second straight tournament.
Joey Hearn and
Zach Tripp each turned in a two-round score of 154 and provided the final team scores for UCCS in both rounds. Hearn shot back-to-back rounds of 77 and Tripp improved his score by four strokes in the second round to a 75.
Dylan Mitchell made a five-stroke improvement between rounds and is tied for No. 77 overall with a 161 as the fifth golfer for the Mountain Lions.
UCCS will close out the Buccaneer Invitational with the third round on Tuesday morning.
