GARDEN CITY, Kan. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team improved its team scored by seven strokes and Joey Hearn tied for the third best score in the second round with a 71 as the Mountain Lions sit in a tie for fifth after two rounds of the Central Region Crossover today. UCCS shot a team score of 292 in the second round for the second-best score in the round by the 16 teams.
Matt Vanderbeek led the Mountain Lions in the opening round with a 73 on the par-72 at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course. Stephen Cook and
Zach Tripp each finished with a 75 and Hearn rounded out the team scoring in the first round with a 76 as UCCS posted a 299 for a No. 10 finish.
Hearn lowered his score by five strokes to a 71 and led a seven-stroke improvement for UCCS in the second round. Patrick Skakel also lowered his score by five strokes to a 72 and Cook improved by three strokes to finish at par with a 72. Tripp turned in the final score for the Mountain Lions with a 77 in the second round.
UCCS is one stroke behind Midwestern State with a two-round score of 591. The Mountain Lions are two strokes behind Texas A&M-International and three strokes from Colorado State-Pueblo. Colorado Mines is leading the field with a 573, helped by a 280 I the opening round.
The Mountain Lions will conclude the third and final round in Kansas on Tuesday.
