DURANGO, Colo. - Matt Vanderbeek shot a 69 in the final round as No. 17 University of Colorado Colorado Springs improved its team scores in each round to finish in a tie for fifth at the first RMAC event of the season at the Hillcrest Golf Course. The Mountain Lions finished with a team score of 881 after a 289 in the final round.
Vanderbeek tied for No. 12 with a 218 overall and the third-best performance of the final round. He was the only Mountain Lion to shoot under a 70 on the par-71 course and he matched his career-best from the second RMAC event of the 2012-13 season.
Zach Tripp finished the second round this morning with a 72 and shot a 73 to close out the tournament. He finished one stroke behind Vanderbeek in the overall standings with a 219, one off of his best performance from last season. Dustin Dalzell turned in a 73 to mark a nine-stroke improvement from his first to his third rounds.
Dylan Mitchell provided the final team score with a 74 in the third round to match his second round performance. Stephen Cook tied for No. 23 in the overall standings with a 224 and matched Tripp's second round score, but shot a 75 in the final round.
The Mountain Lions will compete again next week in the Division II Preview Sept. 30-Oct. 1, in Bend, Ore.
