COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Women's soccer team (3-0-0) is headed west for the weekend to open conference play for the 2013 season.  

In their first conference match-up, the Mountain Lions are slated to take on the Grizzlies of Adams State (3-1-0) in Alamosa, Colo. on Friday Sept. 20. 

This Friday marks only the third time in program history that UCCS has traveled to Alamosa. In five games against the Grizzles, UCCS holds a slight advantage in wins with a 2-1-2 all-time series record. Historically, the Grizzly/Mountain Lion match-up has been quite the battle, with three out of five games decided in overtime. The two double overtime ties in the series were both played in Alamosa. 

With a 3-1-0 record, Adams State is off to one of the best starts in their program history. They are now 2-1 at home with Tuesday's loss to Eastern New Mexico University. Junior forward Allie Mercado leads a Grizzly offense that has already scored 18 goals. She has four goals to her credit and is tied for fourth place in the RMAC with eight points. 

2012 was the last time the teams met when UCCS stormed to a 4-0 shutout victory. Senior forward Agnes Arnadottir netted two goals in the match on her way to a First Team All-RMAC season. Don't expect less from the potent Mountain Lion offense this year as they already have ten goals and 32 points to their credit in just three games. 

Junior forward Hannah Levett,, voted RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17, will challenge an Adam's State defense that has only allowed two goals thus far. Levett is currently tied for second place in the RMAC in goals, points, and game-winning goals. The Mountain Lion attack proves dangerous from all positions as five different players are ranked in the top ten in RMAC offensive categories. 

Also returning from last year's 4-0 shutout win against the Grizzlies is 2012 RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year, Kelly Schroeder. With 16 career shutouts, including two already this year, Schroeder is the backbone to a UCCS defense that has only allowed two goals in three games. 

The Mountain Lions will finish the weekend in Gunnison, Colo. on Sunday Sept. 22 against the Mountaineers of Western State Colorado University (3-1-0).
