GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Kevin Witte shot a season-low 66 and tied for the best performance of the third round to finish second individually at the Mustang Intercollegiate today at the Palm Valley Golf Club. Witte led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to a fourth-place finish in the nine-team event.
Witte finished the tournament at three strokes under par with a total score of 213 and finished two strokes behind the champion. It's his second runner-up performance in the spring season and his 66 today was the lowest score for a Mountain Lion in the 2012-13 year.
Spencer Biersdorff finished second for the Mountain Lions and eighth overall with a score of 217 with a 72 today. It was his sixth performance this season at or below par.
Conrad Isley placed No. 25 overall and third for UCCS with 227 and a 77 today. Grant Dean rounded out the scoring with a score of 74 today and an overall score of 231.
UCCS improved to fourth in the team standings today and finished one stroke behind the runner-ups in Oklahoma Baptist and Western New Mexico. It was the highest finished for the Mountain Lions since the first RMAC event Sept. 17-18 in Montrose, Colo.
The Mountain Lions will be back in action next week in the Division II Spring Preview in DuPont, Wash. Action from The Home Course begins on the morning of April 8.
