COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- A tough weekend lies ahead for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team (7-3, 4-3 RMAC), and it all begins Friday night when the Mountain Lions play host to the visiting Mountaineers of Western State (4-7-1, 1-6-1 RMAC).
The Mountain Lions will look to keep the momentum going into this weekend's matchups after their huge upset victory against previously ranked No. 12 Fort Lewis last Friday.
Kelly Schroeder made eight saves in the game and four different players recorded points as UCCS earned their sixth shutout win.
Western State, the most recent RMAC member, is still in search of their first program win against UCCS. The two teams have only met twice, with the Mountain Lions claiming both 1-0 victories. The series has proved to be quite the defensive battle as the Mountaineers have yet to score a goal on UCCS. In their most recent meeting on Sept. 22, UCCS outshot the Mountaineers 21-6 before sophomore
McKenzie Oliver scored her first collegiate goal to lead the Mountain Lions to victory.
The Mountaineers are led by freshman midfielder Elise Boisnard, who currently has three goals and two assists for eight points. Sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Jedrzejewski is best in the RMAC in saves per game with a 5.33 average. Jedrzejewski has been key for the WSCU defense this season, making 64 saves and earning a .865 save percentage.
The dynamic pair of forwards in
Agnes Arnadottir and
Hannah Levett lead the potent Mountain Lion offense that currently ranks fourth in the conference with 57 points. Arnadottir leads UCCS with six goals and one assist for 13 points and is second in the RMAC in points per game with a 1.30 average. Levett is close behind with 12 points off six goals scored. Levett is currently best in the RMAC in goals per game with a .600 average.
Three different UCCS players are ranked top ten in the conference for assists.
Brooke Tominello and
Kia Jeffords are tied for third place with four helpers a piece. Sophomore
Taylor Braden isn't far behind as she sits in the eighth spot with three assists to her credit. In total, UCCS boasts six different players in top ten categories in the conference.
Game time is set for 5:00 p.m. at Mountain Lion Stadium. The UCCS men's soccer team will take on Metro State immediately following at 7:30 p.m.
