UCCS Improves 14 Strokes in Second Round in Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs improved by 14 strokes in the second round and moved into a tie for eighth in the second RMAC event of the season today at the Walking Stick Golf Course. Stephen Cook improved six spots to No. 13 individually with back-to-back 75 rounds.

Cook tied for sixth among the 60 golfers with six birdies today as golfers competed against windy and cool conditions. He tied teammate Joey Hearn's overall score with a 150, but Hearn entered the tournament as an individual and won't factor into the team scoring.

Patrick Skakel and Dustin Dalzell led UCCS in the second round with rounds of 74 each. It was a seven-stroke improvement for Skakel and six-stroke improvement for Dalzell from the opening round. Skakel matched his season-best round from the GolfWeek Division II Invitational in Oregon from two weeks ago.

Dylan Mitchell provided the final score for the Mountain Lions with an 80 in the second round, a one-stroke improvement for the true freshman. Blake Young shot an 81 in both rounds as the fifth golfer for UCCS.

The final round will begin at 8 a.m., Tuesday.
