Mountain Lions Travel for First Time This Season to Regis

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team will continue its historic state to the 2012 campaign when it travels to Regis on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The Mountain Lions are on a program best 6-0 overall start and 2-0 conference start to the season. The Mountain Lions are ranked No. 11 in theNSCAA national poll for the first time ever and also ranked second in the regional poll.

Regis is 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the RMAC  and coming off as shutout of Colorado State-Pueblo on Sunday. The Rangers tied Metro State 2-2 last Friday in the conference opener. The Rangers are led on offense by Rachel McMahon and Sade Akindele who have each scored four goals. The Rangers are led on defense by goalkeepers Brianna Randall (3-0-0) and Ellen Ausburger (0-2-1).

The Mountain Lions are led on offense by Hannah Levett, Agnes Arnadottir, Hannah Rather, and Brooke Tominello. The Mountain Lions have the No. 29 ranked scoring offense in the nation.

The Mountain Lions are led by current RMAC Defensive Player of The Week Kelly Schroeder (6-0-0) after two shutouts last week against Western Colorado and Metro State and setting up the shutout against New Mexico Highlands. Schroeder is seventh in the nation in save percentage and leads the RMAC in wins. She's also anchoring a defense that ranks No. 12 in Division II in goals-against average.

The Rangers won the last meeting 1-0 in double overtime. The Mountain Lions will be playing for the first time on a grass surface this season and have been holding practices this week off campus on grass fields to get used to the speed of play.

All 10 RMAC schools will be in action on Friday. No. 14 Fort Lewis hosts Adams State, Colorado State-Pueblo will host Colorado Christian, New Mexico Highlands travels to Colorado Mesa and Colorado Mines will host Metro State in the evening.
