Baseball Falls in 19-12 in Game One Slug Match

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team drops game one of the series 19-12 to Metropolitan State University of Denver.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • In the top of the first, starting pitcher Ryder Mancuso ran into some early trouble, giving up a lead-off home run. But Mancuso bounced back with two groundouts and his first strikeout of the game. In the bottom of the first, Bryce Peterson singled to drive in the runner at second and tying the game.
  • In the top of the second, Mancuso kept up his hot start, not giving up a run and getting his second strikeout of the game. In the bottom of the second, the Mountain Lions went down in order.
  • In the top of the third, the Roadrunners broke through, scoring six runs on five hits, including four home runs. But Mancuso got his third and fourth strikeout of the game and got out of the inning. In the bottom of the third with two outs. Peterson came up and hit a solo home run to right field.
  • In the top of the fourth with the bases loaded, the Roadrunners hit a single to drive in the runners at second and third. Fortunately, Mancuso bounced back and got out of the inning without giving up another run. In the bottom of the fourth the Mountain Lions could not capitalize on the bases loaded jam, as they did not score a run.
  • In the top of the fifth, Spencer Gallimore replaced Mancuso. He started off hot, striking out the first batter. With runners on the corners and two outs, Gallimore picked up his second strikeout to get out of the inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Tyler Genrich hit a double to left field and drove in the runner at second. With two outs, Ruben Velasco launched a ball to right field for a two-run home run.
  • In the top of the sixth, Gallimore picked up where he left off and got his third strikeout of the game. A groundout and flyout got the Mountain Lions out of the inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the Mountain Lions went down in order.
  • In the top of the seventh, Gallimore got his fourth strikeout as the Roadrunners went down in order. In the bottom of the seventh with a runner on first, Matthew Shipley hit a two-run home to left center and cut the lead down to 9-7 MSU.
  • In the top of the eighth, Gallimore's dominant night came to an end and Christian Klehr came into replace him. MSU hit a two-run home run after a leadoff double, including a home run. After giving up a hit and a walk, Klehr's night was over and Andrew Boyarko came in to replace him. With two outs, the Roadrunners hit a three-run home run. In the bottom of the eighth with runners on first and second, Peterson hit a three-run home run to left field. With a runner at second, Trevor Dale hit a line drive two-run home run to right center.
  • In the top of the ninth with runners at the corners and one out, MSU hit a three-run home run to left center and extended their lead. With a runner on first and two outs, MSU hit another home run to left center. In the bottom of the ninth, the Mountain Lions went down in order to end the game.
