HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE
  • The Cougars opened the series with a first plate appearance home run to take the one nothing lead in the first.
  • Tyler Genrich would continue his recent tear at the plate as he would capitalize on a two-out single from Tyson Mayberry with a triple of his own to center field as UCCS tied the contest at 1-1.
  • An inning later, UCCS would grab their first lead on Bryce Peterson's solo shot to right center to bring the total to 2-1. UCCS would add to the damage with a walk followed by back-to-back singles to further the lead to 3-1 after two and a half innings.
  • The next scoring wouldn't come until the top of the sixth, thanks largely to Jason Fink's lockdown performance on the mound, as he would respond to the opening home run by not allowing another run for five innings.
  • Both teams would score in the sixth inning after the scoring drought since the third, with UCCS earning a lead off walk, cashed in by two, one-out singles to bring the run home. CCU would respond with a pair of doubles in the bottom of the frame as the gap remained two runs, this time 4-2 headed to the seventh.
  • Tyson Mayberry earned the only run in the seventh going deep to right, pushing the UCCS lead back to three, 5-2.
  • UCCS would explode for nine runs over the final two offensive innings for UCCS, bringing their line to 14 runs in game one. The Cougars made some noise in the bottom of the ninth with a pair of home runs to bring in three runs of their own, but it was too little too late as UCCS won the opening game of RMAC play 14-5 over the Cougars.

GAME STATISTICS | GAME ONE HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO
  • The Cougars matched their start in game one as they would take the 1-0 lead, this time by way of a lead off triple, followed by a sacrifice fly to bring in the opening run.
  • UCCS immediately responded with a lead off homer from James Harbison in the second inning, UCCS would add to their lead earning three more singles in the frame, two with two-outs with a walk sandwiched in between. The push brought in Cayden Gonzalez and Trevor Dale as UCCS headed to the bottom of the second up 3-1.
  • CCU responded by reaching on an error, with a double to follow, cutting the lead back to one at 3-2. The Cougars then earned a one-out single to score another, answering UCCS' top half of the inning, and tying the game at 3-3.
  • There wouldn't be another run scored until Matthew Shipley got the job done with a sacrifice fly to score Ruben Velasco who walked, moved to second on a single, then advanced to third on a wild pitch.
  • CCU answered right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning thanks to a double, paired with a single as the teams traded blows once again.
  • The contest would continue in a stalemate all the way until the 11th inning, as Joe McDermott kept the Cougars quiet for four scoreless innings. The shutdown pichting set up UCCS to take the lead in the 11th Matthew Shipley led off with a walk, moving to third on a Brendan Killeen infield hit. Bryce Peterson did his job with a sacrifice fly to right, before James Harbison singled to center to bring home Killeen. UCCS headed to the bottom of the 11th with the first lead in five innings.
  • CCU would earn a run in the bottom of the inning as a lead off double came back to hurt UCCS, but again, the Cougar effort was too little too late as UCCS won game two 6-5 in 11 innings.
