HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Minnesota-Crookston started off hot in the top of the 1st, as they scored 3 runs off a double and two wild pitches. Robert Mancuso was able to settle in and get the three outs, including two strikeouts, without allowing another run.
  • UCCS started off the bottom of the 1st hot, as the Mountain Lions loaded the bases with one out. James Harbison stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam to right field to take the lead 4-3.
  • Mancuso settled in the top of the 2nd getting three outs, including his third strikeout of the game, and allowing one man on base. UCCS continued their hot streak, as Tyler Genrich and Matthew Shipley got on base. A stolen base by Shipley led to a () on the Golden Eagles and allowed Genrich to score. A single up the middle from Brendan Killeen allowed Shipley to score. Unfortunately, Shipley was caught stealing at 2nd. Bryce Peterson came up and hit a home run to right field to extend the lead to 7-3. Even with a Nolan Oliver single against the new pitcher for the Golden Eagles, the Mountain Lions could not capitalize.
  • Mancuso continued his form in the top of the 3rd, as he had a 1-2-3 inning. He also recorded his 4th and 5th strikeout of the game. To lead off the bottom of the 3rd, Tyler Buchman hit a solo home run to right field. With the bases loaded and one out, a throwing error from the second baseman allowed two runs to score. A double from Oliver allowed Peterson to score. Harbison came up to the plate and hit a towering home run over the batter's eye in center field to get his second home run of the game. Even with a new pitcher in, two back-to-back walks allowed Dale and Buchman to reach base. A fielding error by the 1st baseman allowed Dale to score. At the end of the 3rd, the Mountain Lions led the Golden Eagles 14-3.
  • In the top of the 4th, Mancuso recorded his 6th strikeout of the game. But with 2 men on base, a 463 double play got Mancuso out of the jam. The Mountain Lions could not capitalize with two men on base, as they did not record a run in the bottom of the 4th.
  • In the top of the 5th, Mancuso recorded his 7th strikeout of the game and did not allow a hit. Unfortunately, UCCS could not record a run in the bottom of the 5th.
  • In the top of the 6th, the Golden Eagles were able to score two runs off Joshua Zotto. Joshua Zotto was able to record his 1st strikeout to record the first out of the inning. With the bases loaded, a hit by pitch allowed the Golden Eagles to cut the deficit to 14-6. Unfortunately, that ended the night for Zotto. Benjamin Ruckman came into the game and was able to get out of the inning, only giving up 1 run.
  • In the bottom of the 6th, a pinch-hitting Quinn Medin walked but was caught stealing by the pitcher. Killeen was able to reach first on a hit by pitch. With Killeen on first, Peterson stepped up and hit his second home run of the game to extend the Mountain Lions lead 16-7.
  •  The Golden Eagles led off the top of the 7th by hitting a solo home run to left field. They followed that up by scoring three more runs. They then hit a 2-run home run. That ended the night for Ruckman, as Diego Gonzalez replaces him. Gonzalez was able to get the final out without allowing a run.
  • In the bottom of the 7th, UCCS responded with an RBI double for Buchman, as Dale scored. Buchman advanced to third on a passed ball. Genrich capitalized, as he hit a towering home run to right field and extended the Mountain Lions lead. Three consecutive walks loaded the bases, but the Mountain Lions could not capitalize and score any runs. At the end of the 7th, the Mountain Lions lead 19-3.
  • In the top of the 8th, Minnesota-Crookston were able to capitalize with two men on base as they scored a run on an RBI double. The Golden Eagles followed this up with a 3-run home run to center field. That ended the night for Gonzalez, as Brett Woytek came in to replace him. An error allowed the Golden Eagles to score another run and Woytek's night was over. Mason Hartle came in and walked back-to-back batters, allowing Minnesota-Crookston to tie the game. The Golden Eagles hit a single and an error from the first baseman allowed them to take a 3-run lead. UCCS could not capitalize with two runners on base in the bottom of 8th, not scoring any runs.
  • In the top of the 9th, the Golden Eagles went down in order, including Hartle's first strikeout of the game. In the bottom of the 9th, Harbison hit his third home run of the game to cut the lead down to one. With two men on, Robert Vandegrift came up to the plate and hit a game-tying RBI double to left center field.
