COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team drops game two of the 3 game series vs University of Minnesota-Crookston 4-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS found themselves down early as the Golden Eagles got off to a hot start in their second game of the season. Two early singles and a wild pitch led to two runners in scoring position with no outs for Jacob Brown on the mount. Brown would get a ground ball to Genrich for the first out, but a run scored to open the scoring. Another ground out led to Minnesota-Crookston increasing their lead to 2-0. Minnesota-Crookston was able to get a 2-out single, but Brown was able to get the next batter to ground out to end the top of the 1st. UCCS couldn't respond in the bottom of the 1st, as they went down in order.
- Jacob Brown settled in as he pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 2nd. In the bottom of the 2nd, Minnesota-Crookston got two quick outs. Trevor Dale stepped up to the plate and hit a home run to left field to cut the deficit to one run. A walk to Vandegrift wasn't capitalized on, as Vandegrift was picked off by the pitcher.
- Jacob Brown continued his streak, as he got two outs before giving up a walk. With two outs and a runner on 1st, Jacob Brown picked off the runner at 1st to end the inning.
- UCCS had a hot start in the bottom of the 3rd with a Gonzalez walk and a Genrich double down the left field line leading to runners at 2nd and 3rd. Quinn Medin stepped up to the plate and hit a sac fly out to center field to advance the runners and tie the score. Mayberry was able to hit a ground ball to the first baseman, allowing Genrich to score, taking the lead for the first time in the game.
- Minnesota-Crookston responded early with a leadoff homerun to tie the game up. Jacob Brown responded, with a flyout and his first strikeout of the game for two quick outs. Minnesota-Crookston was able to get a two-out single and a wild pitch advanced the runner, but a groundout back to Brown got the Mountain Lions out of the inning.
- With one out in the bottom of the 4th, Trevor Dale stepped up to the plate and hit a line drive to left field for his second homerun of the game and allowing UCCS to take the lead back. Vandegrift was able out to get a walk, but a mix-up of outs led to a flyout from Gonzalez turning into a double play.
- Through the 5th inning, neither team were able to score any runs while leaving a runner on base.
- In the top of the 6th, Minnesota-Crookston led the inning off with back-to-back home runs off of Erickson to take the lead back 5-4. Erickson was able to get out of the inning with a double play and a strikeout to get out of the inning. Unfortunately, UCCS could not score a run in the bottom of the 6th, leaving a runner on base.
- Through the 7th and 8th inning, the pitchers showed off their arms as both Minnesota-Crookston and UCCS did not score any runs.
- In the top of the 9th with one out and the bases loaded, Minnesota-Crookston were able to extend their lead with 1 run single. But a 463 double play got the Mountain Lions out of the bases loaded jam. Unfortunately, UCCS was not able to capitalize in the bottom of the 9th with a runner on as the game ended 6-4 as Minnesota-Crookston won their first game of the season.
GAME STATISTICS
- Trevor Dale was the only mountain lion with a multi-hit game. He went 3-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs.
- Nate Heymann for the Golden Eagles had a strong day on the mound, going three innings, allowing 2 hits with 4 strikeouts.
- Nate Heymann (1-0) picks up his first win, Garrit Erickson (1-1) takes the loss moving to even on his season.
