No. 14 Mountain Lions Finish Second in Season Opening UCCS Rust Buster

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 17th-ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's cross country team accounted for 46 team points to place second overall in the six-team season and home opening meet Saturday morning.  The 18th annual UCCS Rust Buster was held at Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs.

AROUND THE COURSE
  • The Mountain Lions had one runner place in the top five, as Logan Cole led the Mountain Lions with a time of 25:11.1, finishing in fifth place overall.
  • Three other Mountain Lions finished in the top 10, as junior Brett Davis placed eighth with a time of 25:27.9, followed by Michael Burke Jr. with a time of 25:28.8 and Jack Donze clocking in a time of 25:31.7. Enzo Knapp was the fifth runner for UCCS to finish, as he tallied a time of 25:42.8 to finish 15th overall.
  • Placing first overall as a team were the No. 9 Colorado Christian University Cougars (21 points). Third place was claimed by Colorado College (84 points), followed by MSU Denver (100 points), Western New Mexico University (150 points), and Regis University (178 points).
                       
RACE LEADERS
  • Three of the top five runners this morning came from CCU (Matthew Storer – first place, Alex Vance - third place, and Sean McCauley – fifth place).  Will Shuflit's second-place finish for the Tigers gave Colorado College two of their 84 points as well.

UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will head to Denver for the MSU Denver Invite on Saturday, Sept. 20. The men's 8k race is slated to start at 8:30 a.m.
