COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team won 14-8 and snapped #13 Colorado Mesa University's 13-game win streak Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After giving up a leadoff double, UCCS starting pitcher, Jason Fink, retired the next three batters to escape the first inning jam.
- In the bottom half of the first, UCCS recorded three straight hits, including a Bryce Peterson RBI double off the centerfield wall, to jump out to an early two-run lead.
- The Mountain Lions exploded for six runs in the second inning, despite the first two hitters being retired. Peterson hit a three-run double, Kit Wiginton had an RBI double, and Hayden Iverson blasted a two-run home run.
- The Mavericks offense stormed back in the third inning, scoring six runs and stringing together four straight two-out hits before Fink was taken out of the game.
- UCCS scored one run off a Tyler Glowacki wild pitch to end the third inning with a 9-6 lead.
- Nick Miszuk gave up one run in the top of the fourth, but escaped a bases loaded, no outs jam to keep the UCCS lead at 9-7.
- A Caleb Stubbings two-RBI double led a four-run fourth inning as the Mountain Lions extended their lead to 13-7.
- Joshua Zotto worked out of bases loaded, one out trouble with a double play to end the top of the sixth inning without giving up a run.
- Evan Steinberger hit his first big fly of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the UCCS lead to 14-7.
- CMU scratched across one run in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 14-8.
- Colton Trudeau faced the minimum in the ninth inning as the Mountain Lions completed the 14-8 upset win.
STATS FROM THE GAME
- The top third of the UCCS batting order went a combined 9-for-15, while scoring six runs and driving in six RBIs. Five UCCS batters scored multiple runs today.
- Bryce Peterson went 2-for-5 while scoring two runs and driving in another four.
- Nick Miszuk (1-2) gave up just one run and two hits in his 1.1 innings of work in route to his first win of the season.
- Gauge Lockhart (7-1) gave up eight runs on six hits in just two innings as he suffered his first loss of the year.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Mountain Lions won their 10th game all-time against CMU, and their second in a row after losing the previous eight. It is also the first game one win against the Mavericks in a regular season series in program history.
- The Mountain Lions have reached 20 wins for the first time since 2023, doing in just 34 games played, the fewest required to hit 20 wins since 2019.
- With their win today, UCCS beat ranked opponents in back-to-back games for the first time since 2019, and for the first time in program history against two separate ranked teams.
